At this point in time, I can get a mortgage at a fixed 6.75% interest rate. Why is the national average for a new Student loan higher than that? What can we do to change it?

Hello, I have about $27K in student loans (all on one loan, about 3% interest rate). I am currently making monthly payments of about $300 a month, which I can barely afford. At this rate, I’ll be paying this for the next 10+ years. I would really like to pay this off before my kid goes to college, which is in about 4 years. Any suggestions?

My son has just obtained a 1st class masters degree in Engineering, and starts his £25,000 a year job in August. Could anyone tell me when he will be expected to repay the student loan he had to have to see him through Uni, and how will he pay it ?

I have made student loan payments in 2007 and have received a paper in the mail stating I had paid $500 in interest and to include it in my taxes. What percentage of it will I get back? 50% maybe? or less?
